WARRINGTON’S LiveWire libraries will play their part in setting a new Guinness World Record for the most children pledging to take part in a reading event.
On Saturday July 11 from 10am-2pm an event will be held at Orford Library where children aged four to 12 will be encouraged to sign up to The Summer Reading Challenge.
Libraries up and down the country will also hold “pledge” events simultaneously as the Reading Agency tries to break the world record for the most reading pledges made in one day.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a major literacy campaign which encourages primary school children to keep reading throughout the summer holidays. To complete the challenge children must read a total
of six books by September 6.
Children who finish the challenge by the end of August will be entered into a prize draw to win a tour of the Halliwell Jones stadium with everyone else being given a medal and certificate for their efforts at a
special ceremony in September.
Chris Everett, senior LiveWire advisor for reading said: “We hope that as many children as possible will sign up to the challenge and help us break a world record.
“Last year’s challenge was a great success and this year we’re expecting more than 2,000 children
across Warrington to take part”.
