School’s plan to drive up standards

URGENT action is already being taken to drive up standards and achievements at a Warrington primary school judged to be “requiring improvement.”
Ofsted inspectors made the judgement at visiting Penketh South Primary  – but governors and school leaders already have a detailed plan of improvement in place and are confident that they can make necessary changes at the school.
In their report, Ofsted inspectors noted that as a result of actions taken by the head teacher and acting deputy head teacher, many aspects of teaching and learning and achievement had already begun to improve.
The behaviour and safety of pupils was rated as “good” and pupils were
described as courteous, polite and displaying positive attitudes towards learning.
Inspectors noted pupils feel safe in school and parents are supportive of the school and its leaders.
Head teacher Angela Grace said: “We are disappointed with the outcome
of the inspection but acknowledge the findings and recommendations.
“We are determined to improve the aspects of teaching referred to in the Ofsted report to enable the school to quickly move back to being judged as good, but most importantly to ensure that the children receive the best education possible.  Everyone on the school team shares this common purpose and hope that parents will support us in the coming months in what is likely to be a difficult period for the school.
“A detailed action plan is already in place to address the issues raised, relating to the achievement of pupils, the quality of teaching and leadership and management of the school.
“The governing body, council, and staff at the school are committed to working together to accelerate the progress required to raise standards and to bring about the improvements needed to give the children the best standard of education.”
Warrington Borough Council’s operational director for children and young people’s universal services, Sarah Callaghan, said: “We have been assisting the school in a number of ways including the support of an experienced head teacher from another Warrington school and extensive support from our senior adviser team.
“We will continue to monitor progress and are confident that they can build a bright future at the school.”
