ALMOST 200 guests attended the annual show put on by media students at the Warrington Campus of Chester University.
Students, their families, lecturers and industry guests enjoyed live music, live TV and digital photography screenings and live radio broadcasts and there were exhibitions and awards presentations – the culmination of a year’s creativity by BA and PhD students in TV production, digital photography, journalism, sports journalism, digital marketing and radio production.
The event also saw the launch of a CD of original music produced by BA commercial music production (CMP) students, alongside the 60-page event catalogue “Inspire to aspire – Aspire to Inspire”.
The showcase event was organised by second-year students Alex Morrell, Alex Brian, Nathan Scott, Ashley Turner, Joshua Boardman and Alessandro Salemme.
Head of media Dr Alec Charles said: “The media showcase is the ultimate celebration of our students’ work this year. From those who organised the event, to those who exhibited, those who won awards and those who nominated their fellow students and supported everyone on the night – they all have plenty to celebrate.
“This has been a really successful year for the University of Chester’s department of media – our students have clinched a fistful of national media, radio, television and music awards. The spirit and enthusiasm highlighted at the media showcase event underlines why the University of Chester’s department of media is so successful.”
There were awards for students who have made significant contributions to the university’s media community. Nominated by their fellow students, winners included second-year sports journalism student Ryan Taylor, who was commended by his peers for his “unique comedy style”.
Another winner was first-year radio production and television production student, Bex Brighty.
The awards were presented by special guests, including the University’s Pro Vice Chancellors, Professor Peter Harrop and Dr Chris Haslam; chaplain (and Jerusalem broadcasting award winner) Father Ian Delinger; the dean of the faculty of arts and media, Brendan O’Sullivan; sports journalist, Stephen F Kelly; the director of the radio production company 2ZY and former manager of BBC Radio Manchester, John Ryan; professional photographer, Helen Hann and Bay TV News Editor, Peter Berry.
Local people also enjoyed the show.
