WORLD Book Night was celebrated in Warrington – by the LiveWire library team giving away 600 free books.
Pupils from Penketh High School travelled to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to give away books to the players during their training session, while LiveWire staff handed out books at Risley and Thorn Cross Prisons.
Adult learners taking part in this year’s Six Book Challenge also received a free book while families collected theirs via the local children’s centre.
Members of the public were queuing to receive theirs at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub, where a total of 300 books were collected within an hour.
World Book Night is run by The Reading Agency in partnership with publishers, booksellers and libraries to inspire people and remind them to take out time to read on a regular basis.
One woman was reminded of how much she enjoyed reading by saying: “Seeing all these lovely books reminds me that I should read more – I love it when I make the time to read.”
An adult learner from the Six Book Challenge enthused: “This is a brilliant launch for Rugby Reading Champions – the players and staff at the Warrington Wolves are such excellent role models.”
LiveWire has a large variety of books on offer throughout its 11 libraries along with a number of eBooks which can downloaded for free. Sign up online to become a free library member today: www.livewirewarrington.co.uk/library
