Triathlon events for beginners launched

LIVEWIRE are holding a series of triathlon style events as part of the GO TRI project to introduce people to triathlons in Warrington.

GO TRI is a fun way to access triathlon for the first time, with manageable distances that have been purpose-designed for beginners.

The most recent event was an Aquathlon on Sunday 19 April at Broomfields Leisure Centre.

The 18 participants who took part completed a 250 metre swim in the pool followed by a 3.8km run which followed a scenic route up to Grappenhall Heys walled garden and back.

One participant, Howard Ireland, said: “I turned up with my wife and son with trepidation never having undertaken anything like this before and we were all quite nervous and worried about how we would cope. We were soon put at ease and started the swimming and running stages without a hiccup. The event was perfect for us.”

Louise Shannon, event organiser and LiveWire employee, said: “It was a perfect day for the event, the sun was shining and we had a fantastic group of volunteers and competitors. The response to these events has been amazing and we can’t wait for the next event at Orford.”

The next event is on Saturday 16th May at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub with a choice of a Duathlon in the morning or an Aquathlon in the afternoon. If you would like to enter either of these events or would like further information about GO TRI, visit the LiveWire website at www.livewirewarrington.co.uk
