Green Belt homes plan is thrown out

A PLAN to build 64 homes on Green Belt land at Lymm has been rejected by planning bosses at Warrington.
The borough council’s development management committee rejected the proposals put forward for Tanyard Farm, off Rushgreen Road, after hearing strenuous objections from local residents.
More than 100 people joined Lymm Parish Council in opposing the scheme put forward by Bellway Homes.
Cllr Ian Marks opposed the scheme on Green Belt grounds.
He said it was important to retain open space between Lymm and Oughtrington. The development would have a negative impact on Lymm’s attractive environment. Existing businesses would be lost, there would be additional traffic on an already hazardous road and there was a risk that affordable housing would not be provided.
Neighbours claimed the development would be harmful and inappropriate and the parish council objected on Green Belt grounds.
But planning officers recommended the scheme be approved and argued the scheme would enhance the site, with an ecological area and restored grassland.
Of the 64 houses, 24 would be “affordable.”
