Appleton chosen as “Showcase Club” for coming cricket season

THE ENGLISH Cricket Board has selected Appleton to be a Showcase Club” for this year’s NatWest Cricketforce.
A launch day is to take place at the Grange Sports and Social Club, Latchford on March 10 from 5-8pm and the main event will take place at the club’s ground in Lyons Lane, Appleton, on March 25.
It is believed a couple of England players will attend at the main event.
Appleton fields four teams in the Cheshire Cricket League and also hosts the highly successful Appleton women’s team which is one of the leading sides in the Cheshire Women’s League.
The club plays at Lyons Lane and also at The Grange and at Bridgewater High School.
Club captain Alex Wright said: “We have developed considerably as a club in recent years but are determined to go further, into a higher standard of cricket.
“We have some promising young players and a good mix of youth and experience.
“We have a number of exciting infrastructure projects planned to improve facilities still further and we will have the usual work parties to set up the ground and pavilion ready for season 2018. “VIPs from the ECB and Natwest will be coming along with one or more current England internationals.”
