Gifted youngsters graduate early

MORE than 60 gifted and talented youngsters from Warrington have been awarded university “graduation certificates” – after attending extra lessons on Saturday mornings.
Pupils from primary schools in the Padgate area and selected Year 7 and 8 pupils from Padgate High School accepted the “Learning Challenge.”
Since January the eager youngsters have been attending Padgate High on a Saturday morning to take part in master classes in a wide range of subjects including Maths, Latin, ICT, Creative Writing and Elocution.
But it hasn’t just been about extra Saturday classes – the interactive lessons have also been fun.
Padgate High headteacher Alison Sherman said: “These workshops have enabled the children to develop a curiosity about the world and enthusiasm for learning. They have also allowed pupils the opportunity to pursue their own interests to a depth that satisfies them. These are central to our vision for how we see Padgate developing in the future”.
The programme ended with a “graduation ceremony” at the University of Chester at which all the pupils received graduation diplomas and experienced a real sense of achievement.
