COACHES, parents – and even some players! – attended the annual meeting of Latchford Giants Rugby League Club.
The evening was about letting parents know what goes on at the club and encouraging them to get involved in any way they can. But it was also an occasions to congratulate the stars of the year – starting with the Warrington Wolves Man of Steel event, where John Wilkinson received the Latchford Giants Community Hero award for all his hard work with Latchford 15s.
Also on the night, Luke Thomas, of Latchford 14s and Charlie McCurrie, were up for player of the year for their respective ages and although both were pipped at the post, it was a great achievement to be in the top three for the whole town.
Other achievements celebrated were Gavin Bennion and Joe Philbin, both former Latchford players making their international debuts in the World Cup for Wales and Ireland.
Under 14s star Billy Cannon signed a scholarship at Wigan, Under 15s’ Joe Higgins signed a contract at Sale Sharks, and Jack Folkes and Lloyd Wright extended their scholarships at Warrington for another year.
Keiran Derbyshire was nominated for NWC division two player of the year.
Club spokesman Matt Wilkinson said: “On the whole the night was a great success and it will help us keep moving forward as a club and stick to being the best club to get players into the professional game in Warrington.”
