PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for an extension to a children’s day nursery to enable the number of youngsters accommodated to be increased from 50 to 60.
The plan at the Rosebank Centre, in Pepper Street, Lymm will mean a change of use from the existing mixed use of dwelling house and day nursery to one of day nursery.
It will also mean the centre will be open from 7.30am to 6pm instead of from 8am to 6pm as in the past.
Lymm Parish Council had objected to the changes on the grounds Pepper Street was already congested and an opening time of 7.30am was too early in a high density residential area – but withdrew their opposition prior to the meeting. During the application process a full traffic count and employee/children survey showed traffic was not a problem.
There was also an objection from a neighbour who said at peak times it was already impossible to drive out of Pepper Street without experiencing delays and that indiscriminate parking was taking place, exacerbated by parking opposite the car park and the entrance to Pepper Street.
Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved.
They said there were no changes proposed in the appearance of the site other than the creation of three additional parking spaces at the rear.
Although there were congestion and parking issues in Pepper Street it was considered that an additional 10 children would not make a significant difference.
Most of the congestion arose after the nearby Ravenbank Primary School opened at 8.40am.
