PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have cleared the way for the long-awaited new link road and bridge designed to ease traffic congestion at Bridge Foot.
Members of the borough’s development management committee have approved an environmental assessment application – made by the council itself – in respect of the new route linking Chester Road and Slutchers Lane.
It covers issues such as demolition,  earthworks, drainage, lighting, signage and temporary construction compounds as we3ll as the demolition of a building on Chester Road and a retrospective application for hoarding surrounding the site.
The site is mostly rough, brownfield land, containing a former car garage and the remains of a golf driving range.
Councillors were told  that a total of 19 different consultation events were held at various locations between 2015 and January this year to gauge public opinion on the proposals. The scheme was amended following the consultation
Aim of the proposal is to reduce traffic through Bridge Foot and help make journey times shorter and more reliable for motorists and public transport users.
The new bridge will also facilitate the long-term aim of accessing areas adjoining Centre Park for potential future development.

  1. “The new bridge will facilitate the long-term aim of accessing areas adjoining Centre Park for potential future development.” It will ALSO aim to reduce traffic through Bridge Foot. It is doubtful it “help make journey times shorter and more reliable for motorists and public transport users”, because the scheme will move the point of one daily traffic nightmare to another area, and in so doing create more congestion when the 500 + houses are built on the “areas adjoining Centre Park” by introducing another 1200/1300 cars into the overall traffic mix.
