Apartment plan rejected

A PLANNING inspector has thrown out proposals for garages and an apartment because of the current “oversupply” of new housing in Warrington.
The plan involved disused land in Heath Street, Stockton Heath and planning consent was

refused by the borough council earlier this year.
Now the inspector has refused an appeal by the applicant.
He has ruled that because of a very substantial oversupply of housing in Warrington, the application cannot be treated as an exception to council policy.
Although the site is untidy, it does not represent a serious environmental problem and, in any case, granting permission because the site was untidy could encourage other land owners not be manage their land properly.
The council says the decision supports its stance that adding to a large surplus of housing land is unacceptable.
