Tory leader boosts election war chest

TORY leader David Cameron made a whistle stop visit to the party faithful in Warrington South to help boost his election war chest.
During a fund-raising meet and greet at the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton, Mr Cameron outlined his five point plan to bring the Tories to power, with Warrington South the 85th “marginal seat” out of 120 they need to win to form the next Government.
Party members, who paid £30 a head for a “Salmon Supper” added to election funds by bidding £200 for an autographed photo of Mr Cameron and a similar amount for a signed bottle of champagne.
The Tory leader was guest of Warrington South prospective parliamentary candidate David Mowat.
Clutching a pint of beer in one hand Mr Cameron ensured he shook hands with every one of the 200 party members in the room, before outlining his five point plan to bring the Tories to power, as part of a three day visit to key marginals in the North West following the recent by-election success at Crewe.
He said the first point was not to get complacent.
“Just because we are ahead in the polls it is still asking a lot for people to vote for a change in Government. I want us to win, not because Labour is failing but because people have faith in the team we have.
“We have got to roll up our sleeves here in Warrington South and around the country and win over 120 seats to get over all control.”
He said the second point was not to “abandon” the centre ground. “We will be the party of law and order and to stand up to Europe and we will also be the party of the NHS and education.
“Thirdly we will be the party who are united with no division.”
Mr Cameron added: “The fourth point is that we understand that one of the biggest problems people are now facing is the cost of living. People want to understand that we know what is going on with the family budget and we need to show them we can help. When petrol prices go up we need to look at cutting taxes, not putting them up!”
The fifth and final point for a Tory government would be to mend a “broken society” and “bring back family values” with help through tax and benefit systems.
Mr Cameron also promised that a Tory government would “scrap” Labour’s proposed ID cards scheme.
“But we have to be careful about what promises we make in the short term because there will be a lot of hard work ahead of us,” he concluded.
Meanwhile Mr Mowat thanked Mr Cameron, through his leadership, for making the Conservative party “relevant and electable again!”
