VIDEO: LYMM’S new Netto store officially opened today and was well received by the local community, with no sign of the controversy which greeted initial news of the discount supermarket coming to the village.
Mayor of Warrington Geoff Settle was on hand to help with the opening ceremony along with pupils from Statham Primary School.
Netto Lymm’s first customer was Lynne Isherwood, who is pictured cutting the ribbon with Netto UK Managing Director, Morten Moberg Nielsen and Store Manager, Nathan Wilson.
Children from the Statham Community Primary School are also pictured jumping for joy in front of the world’s biggest LEGO dog, Scottie.

After all the negative publicity when the store was first announced it looks to be a good addition to the local community.
How can something so ugly looking be allowed. It does however go with all the advertising signs on the site next door. Feel sorry for the residents who live close by.
Funny how we couldn’t move on our estate because of all the vehicles parked on Reddish Crescent on both sides all the way up to the transpennine trail and round the corner in to Bollin Drive. Even NETTO staff were parking up… I hope its just the initial frenzy and that people have respect for those of that want to get to our homes!
Not only couldn’t get out today been like that for the last few weeks. Parking is also causing obstruction on pavement and actually turning onto Rushgreen Road very dangerous owing to the parking right at the junction. Traffic survey undertaken last month had to be postponed because of the parking and low and behold the day of the survey they all managed to park on site. The nice store also left lots of nice litter
It is a monstrosity of a building that does not fit in with Lymm. So sad for the people overlooking this that have paid thousands for their homes. Parking problems already from staff using alternative parking to leave room for shoppers. Detrimental to our village and all the shop keepers. We are a village and I personally would pay for quality.
Such negative comments that show a lack of understanding about the opening day. The staff were instructed not to use the car park on the first day due to expected numbers of press/media and interest for the launch. Having spoken to staff and management when I attended the opening it was clearly stated that staff will be able to use the car park from today onwards. As for the store looking ugly ? I totally disagree. It is done in a sympathetic manner and well landscaped. Imagine if it had been all steel and huge glass windows throughout ! After having a semi derelict site with a hand car wash blighting the site for quite sometime this is a 100% improvement that was there.
Unless I am wrong there are no parking restrictions, double yellow lines or ‘No Waiting’ signs for Reddish Drive so none of those parking were breaking any laws. I do wonder how many of those leaving negative comments will still use the store in the future even if they don’t admit to it.
Do not know where Reddish Drive is but Reddish Crescent has put up with inconsiderate parking for the last few months. There are no restrictions on Reddish Crescent so parking is not illegal but parking at the junction of Rushgreen Road and blocking the pavement by parking on it causes obstructions and a danger to all. Parking slightly over residents drive ways is also inconsiderate. Residents fully understood that this was opening day but why are staff parking on the pavement again today?

Awful shop! Visited the shop with an open mind and it was worse than expected – some products may be ‘slightly’ cheaper in NETTO but is it really value for money when it is on it’s last shelf-life? I live local to the shop but will not purchase from there after my first ‘awful’ visit. I would much rather travel to a decent supermarket and pay more for in-date products.
Yeah all the snobs seem to have been proven wrong by the apparent success of this store. Given the overpriced and limited selection of the co ops and tiny sainsbury store its no suprise. Wholeheartedly agree that the site is 100x better than the eyesore it replaces and once the site matures should be much better still. Its never going to replace booths or waitrose but its never meant to.
