Six-wicket haul ensures victory

WARRINGTON registered a welcome victory in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League when they defeated Upton by 63 runs.
Batting first, Warrington reached 195-8 in 50 overs. Andy Kirby top scored with 51 and there were useful knocks from Liam Heaphy, 40 and Chris Kirby, 38.
Upton’s batsmen found the going tough against good bowling from Robert Batey, who finished with figures of 6-48. Upton were dismissed for 132.
Grappenhall’s promotion bid is still on course after a useful victory at Burnage.
The home side batted first on a slow pitch and good, tight bowling from Park and Holden kept the score down on a small pitch.
Aussie Cameron Park began to chip away at the wickets, finishing with 5-60 while skipper Steve Titchard took 3-43.
Burnage were bowled out for 193 in the 50th over.
Things look ominous for Grappers after the loss of three wickets but Alan Brady, 67 not out and Steve Titchard, 63 not out, set about the bowling with a blend of stroke play and patience to reach their target with five overs to spare.
The result left Grappenhall second in the division two table, with six weeks remaining.
Grappenhall 2nd play Christleton at Broad Lane and, on a slow pitch, tight bowling from Sam Guest and Andy Hards kept the visitors’ scoring rate down.
But it was the introduction of Mark Roylance that turned the game as he bagged 6-42, following on from five wickets the previous week, to dismiss Christleton for 146.
Matt Titchard chipped in with 2-57.
Grappenhall started well in reply, with Dave Nicholson, 14, and Adam Roylance, 23, putting on 40 for the first wicket. But three quick wickets fell, left the side struggling on 55-4.
A well-grafted 50 from Steve Hartley, well supported by 35 not out from Matt Bennison, took Grappers to a five wicket win with eight overs to spare.
Grappenhall 3rd entertained Oulton Park and reached 70 without loss on a slow wicket with Mark Tyerman hitting 36 and Adam Roylance 75. Sam Baxter finished with unbeaten with a superb 61 and Grappenhall on 217-4 – what appeared to be a defendable total.
But the visitors started briskly and despite tight bowling managed to keep up with the run rate. They eventually reached their target on the last ball of the game, for the loss of six wickets. Sam Guest took 2-51.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton went down by three wickets at Knutsford.
Appleton made first use of a slow wicket and were restricted to 140-7, Jon Stoker hitting 36. The home side replied with 141-7, despite good bowling from Pete Worrall, 3-45.
Rylands beat visitors Rostherne by four wickets after bowling them out for 134, with A Peters taking 3-34. Rylands coasted to 136-6, E Clarke hitting an unbeaten 48.
Glazebury picked up maximum points when Radbroke Hall were unable to field a side.
Appleton 2nd defeated Capenhurst at Lyons Lane, dismissing the visitors for 104 and then benefiting from some loose bowling to coast to 105-5.
Glazebury 2nd went down by four wickets at Eastham after the Wirral side had bowling them out for a meagre 80, skipper Andy Durrington top scoring with 23. Eastham replied with 83-6.
Rylands 2nd suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Disley, being tumbled out for 41 after Disley had totalled 183-6.
Appleton 3rd were held to a draw against Woodford.
Batting first, Appleton reached 213, Kevan Lomas hitting 67 and Mike Arnold 48. Woodford replied with 179-7.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park earned a draw against Barrow at Oughtrington Lane.
The visitors batted first and declared on 209-5. Lymm made a brave attempt to go for the runs but eventually had to give up the chase and ended on 156-6.
Stretton suffered a seven wicket defeat at the hands of Stockport.
Batting first on a damp wicket, Stretton could muster only 148. Stockport replied with 149-3.
