WARRINGTON’S biggest provider of libraries and learning has been awarded funding to allow libraries across the town help people improve their digital skills.

LiveWire was one of only 16 library services across the UK who were successfully chosen to be part of the innovative project by digital inclusion agency, Tinder Foundation.

The £10,000 awarded will allow LiveWire to work with partners to run pilots of digital inclusion projects using new approaches. The three libraries that will hold the digital sessions are Padgate, Birchwood and Warrington Central Libraries, all of which were installed with free Wi-Fi earlier this summer as part of a seperate BT and Barclays funded initiative.

The national Tinder Foundation programme is part of a six-month research pilot looking into ways to support socially excluded members of the population to learn digital skills. It will also allow libraries to investigate new technology to establish support models for members of the community.

Tina Redford, LiveWire’s Strategic Lead for Libraries and Learning, said: “We’re delighted to be only one of 16 library services across the country to have been awarded this funding. The grant will allow us to help close the digital divide in Warrington and cater for people in the area who do not have access to computers by offering them the ability to learn to use technology to stay connected.”

Two digital sessions will be held at Padgate Library on Monday and Tuesday next week to celebrate Get Online Week, a national campaign that aims to reach tens of thousands of people across the UK and help them to get online for the first time, or brush up their computer and internet skills.

To find out more about the sessions, please call Padgate Library on 01925 818096.
