Time to walk to school

0

OCTOBER is international walk to school month – and that is what Warrington Borough council is hoping local youngsters will be doing.
The council and Change4Life is supporting the initiative and celebrating the benefits of walking to school. Families are being asked to walk, cycle or scoot to school and leave the car behind.
Children need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day that gets their heart beating faster than usual and breaking this down into 10 minute bite-size chunks is a good way to start.
Parents and their children can make a pledge to walk to school more often by picking up a pledge card from their teacher.
Cllr Pat Wright, the council’s lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services said: “Walking to school regularly is not only a fantastic way to help reach the recommended daily 60 minutes of activity, but also a great chance to teach your children vital road safety skills.
“Walking is good for your health and means there’s less congestion outside school. It is a great way for families to be up and about having fun together and I would encourage everyone to walk to school not only throughout October but in the months leading up to Christmas and beyond.”
