SALES director Mike Atkinson was expecting to attend a colleague’s birthday party – but his wife, Jenny, had other ideas.
She had secretly organised a surprise charity dinner to celebrate his 40th birthday and as the couple walked into a local restaurant they were greeted by 65 friends and family members.
Mike and Jenny, from Lymm. regularly support Macmillan, raising money in memory of Mike’s grandfather who received great care from the cancer charity before his death.
A raffle and auction was held during the evening resulting in £2,100 windfall for Macmillan Cancer Research.
Mike said: “The surprise is still sinking in now! It was a fantastic evening and I can’t believe Jenny managed to get everybody there without someone blurting out the secret. I am so grateful to everyone who came.”
Many local businesses gave generously to make the night a success. Everton Football Club, where Mike is a season ticket holder, donated a tour of Goodison Park and EFC Memorabilia donated a signed shirt. Other prizes included a velodrome training session, two spa treatment packages and wine from a local wine store.
Jenny said: “We would both like to thank all those who donated prizes as well as those who gave generously on the night.”
