Contaminated land fear at Walton Hall

0

PLANNING officers are recommending approval for installation of a fibre optic cable leading into historic Walton Hall at Warrington – but warning of the possibility of underground contamination.
Should any contamination be discovered during excavations, they say work should be halted immediately.
The new cable will be routed into the estates office at Walton Hall – one of the oldest parts of the Grade 2 listed building.
To avoid unsightly lengths of external ducting, the cable will be routed into the building at a low level.
Historical mapping indicates the possibility of potentially contaminated land arising from dredging of the adjacent Bridgewater Canal.
Planners say extra care must be taken during the work – and if any contamination is encountered it must be reported immediately and work halted.
But they say the scheme should have no significant impact on the listed building and are recommending the scheme be given the go-ahead.
