Tenants grow their own fruit and veg

FIFTY free kits have been delivered to tenants of Warrington’s Golden Gates Housing Trust to encourage them to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
The “iPots” have been provided by the Trust in partnership with Long Lane Garden Centre and a local supermarket.
It’s the second year the scheme has been operated by GGHT and it comes with information on food sustainability, healthy eating and improving the environment.
The iPots are large, colourful pots filled with compost and complete with a pack of pre-grown vegetables supplied by the garden centre.
They have been snapped up by tenants in Dallam, Bewsey, Longford and other areas.
GGHT tenant Charlotte Rose said “I would love to use the iPot to grow my own fruit, vegetables and herbs and use these in my cooking.
“I have weaned my son onto homemade food and I use a lot of herbs to season food. We all try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and make healthy eating a part of our lifestyle. It’s also good to know that fruit and vegetables don’t come from packets!”
Alongside the free scheme is an iPot “Best in Show” competition that invites all 50 recipients to submit photos of their projects and the best looking and most imaginative iPot will win £25 worth of vouchers!
