Westy wins £1 million windfall!

ONE of Warrington’s most deprived areas and one of the top 8 per cent deprived areas in the country, will receive £1 million of Big Lottery funding over the next ten years.
People living in Westy will get to decide how to improve their local community and a new charitable trust will soon be set up tasked with deciding how and when to spend the money.
This could include anything from starting up training and employment schemes, creating social enterprises or providing more activities for young people.
The council, ward councillors and local groups have long recognised the need for additional resources in this area and the Big Lottery submission was based on hard evidence of need.
Cllr Kate Hannon, (pictured right) executive board member for leisure, community and culture said: “This is fantastic news for Westy and for Warrington.
“This new fund is 100% resident led so it will be entirely up to people living in the area to use the funds on the things that matter most to them, and projects and services that will have the biggest impact.”
The Big Local programme is funded through a £200m Big Lottery Fund investment and managed by Local Trust; Big Local is helping 150 small urban and rural communities across England to make their areas even better places to live.

  1. Well done Westy. (glad they have dropped the Latchford West name). However, I do wish they would stop using quotes from years ago. Westy is no longer one of the most deprived areas. Have they not seen all the new housing and apartments in the area?
