WARRINGTON Wolves dominated reigning Super League champions Hull KR with a definitive 34-12 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Sam Burgess’ resurgent side blew the visitors away by establishing a massive 22-0 lead by half-time, effectively solidifying their spot in the top-six play-off race while leaving the Robins’ title defence in jeopardy.
Warrington opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Leon Hayes setup Lachlan Webster. Shortly after, James Harrison burst through a static Hull KR line. Matty Ashton hit a monumental career milestone by scoring his 100th club try, before Danny Walker touched down to secure a 22-0 interval scoreline.
Returning forward Joe Philbin barrelled over 12 minutes into the second half. Hull KR responded with a try from Oliver Gildart, but Ashton snuffed out any hopes of a comeback by grabbing his second try of the match. James Batchelor added a consolation try for the visitors on the final whistle.
Hull KR’s star playmaker Mikey Lewis endured a nightmare afternoon, avoiding major trouble for an apparent first-half headbutt but ultimately being sent to the sin bin in the 72nd minute for a late hit on Ewan Irwin.
