TRAIN services between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street have resumed after a major emergency services incident at Sankey railway station brought the line to a standstill earlier today (Saturday).
All services between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street were cancelled during the afternoon after emergency services were called to an incident at Sankey station.
A large emergency services presence was reported at the station as police, ambulance crews and other responders dealt with the incident.
Rail operator Northern suspended services on the affected section of the line while emergency services worked at the scene, leaving passengers facing widespread disruption and cancellations.
Throughout the incident, customers were advised to check before travelling and expect delays while services were either cancelled or amended.
At 3.37pm, Northern confirmed that the emergency services incident had been cleared and trains were able to begin running again. However, the operator warned that delays and cancellations could continue while the timetable recovered and trains returned to their normal positions.
No official details have yet been released regarding the nature of the incident, and emergency services have not issued any information about those involved.
Passengers are still being advised to check live departure boards and journey planners before travelling as services continue to recover.
Northern apologised to customers for the disruption and reminded passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more that they may be eligible to claim compensation through the operator’s Delay Repay scheme.
Normal service is expected to resume once trains and crews are back in position following the earlier disruption.
