TRAIN services between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street have resumed after a major emergency services incident involving a person sadly being hit by a train at Sankey railway station brought the line to a standstill on Saturday.
All services between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street were cancelled during the afternoon after emergency services were called to an incident at Sankey station.
A large emergency services presence was reported at the station as police, ambulance crews and other responders dealt with the incident.
Rail operator Northern suspended services on the affected section of the line while emergency services worked at the scene, leaving passengers facing widespread disruption and cancellations.
At 3.37pm, Northern confirmed that the emergency services incident had been cleared and trains were able to begin running again.
Northern has since confirmed a person was sadly hit by a train.
No official details have yet been released regarding the nature of the incident, and emergency services have not issued any information about those involved.
Northern apologised to customers for the disruption and reminded passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more that they may be eligible to claim compensation through the operator’s Delay Repay scheme.
Normal service has since resumed.

I was on the train, so sad for all. The staff were great keeping us up to date whilst still on the coach, Yes it delayed our plans for the rugby but we are still here. Our heart goes out to the family of the deceased and also the driver .
