WARRINGTON Borough Council’s residential services and supported accommodation for children in care and care leavers have received five positive Ofsted inspections, including Westland Drive, which secured a notable 13th ‘outstanding’ rating in a row.
This builds on the council’s most recent Ofsted inspection of Children’s Services in 2024, which confirmed an overall ‘good’ rating, with two of the four key areas judged to be ‘outstanding’.
Westland Drive shines again
Westland Drive children’s home, which is a short break home that provides help and support to some of our most vulnerable children and their families, has received the highest possible rating in its latest Ofsted inspection. This makes it the 13th consecutive time the home has achieved the feat.
Inspectors found that children are exceptionally well cared for, forming strong and positive relationships with staff, to help them feel safe and secure.
Staff were praised for their deep commitment to ensure that every child’s voice is heard, understood and acted upon.
The Westland Drive inspection found that the team recognise that children’s progress and stability are strengthened through trusting, respectful partnerships with families. They take time to understand family dynamics, strengths and pressures and parents say they feel listened to and are more confident in their ability to meet their child’s needs.
Ofsted also praised Westland Drive for providing children with opportunities which expand their life experiences, through a wide range of stimulating activities to meet their sensory needs, hobbies and interests, including trips to zoos, going to local parks, sports, train rides, messy play and crafts.
Success for other homes
Recent Ofsted inspections of other children’s homes at The Anchor, Ross Close, Aviary House have also resulted in great outcomes that reflect the hard work of the council’s children’s services.
Furthermore, in February, the Supported Accommodation service underwent its first inspection since registration and achieved an ‘Outcome 1’ with no requirements. This is the highest possible result, placing the service on par with ‘Outstanding’ children’s homes and confirming that our service delivery is consistently strong.
“Exceptional achievement”
Cllr Matt Smith, cabinet member for children’s, families and education, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the outstanding work taking place across our residential and supported accommodation services, and these latest Ofsted results are a clear reflection of that commitment.
“Achieving five positive inspections is an exceptional achievement, and Westland Drive’s 13th consecutive ‘outstanding’ rating is nothing short of remarkable.
“The reports consistently highlight what really matters – children feeling safe, listened to and supported by adults who genuinely care about them. This dedication to building strong, trusting relationships with children and families reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring every child and young person in Warrington receives the very best care and support, helping them thrive and reach their full potential.”
The inspector recommended to improve, the supported accommodation provider registered person should ensure that the individual needs of each child are fully considered when arranging supported accommodation, so that the setting is appropriate to meet their needs and keep them safe.
