A NATIONAL social care charity founded in Warrington is inviting local people to come together for an afternoon of connection, creativity and community spirit.
Making Space will host its “Hope in Warrington” event on Wednesday May 20, from 12 noon to -6pm at its head office on Allen Street, near the town centre. The event is free and open to anyone passing by, offering a welcoming space to drop in, take part and chat with others.
The event forms part of A Million Acts of Hope, a UK-wide campaign running from May 13–20 that celebrates the everyday acts of kindness and connection that bring people together. Making Space is proud to be a partner in the campaign, which aims to highlight hope as a powerful alternative to division.
At a time when national conversations can feel increasingly polarised, the Hope in Warrington event has been created with a clear message: hope, not hate. The campaign itself was born out of a desire to challenge rising division, by amplifying the positive stories that exist in every community.
Visitors to the event can enjoy live performances from the Creating Adventures band and choir – a local charity supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities – alongside a range of stalls including bake sales, books, plants, and arts and crafts. The event will offer a relaxed, inclusive environment designed to reduce isolation and bring people together.
Fundraising will also take place throughout the day, with all money raised being shared between Making Space, Creating Adventures, and Warrington Disability Partnership, supporting people affected by hate crime. This reflects a shared commitment to giving back and supporting local organisations making a difference.
Making Space, with services across the UK, supports people with mental health conditions, learning disabilities and dementia, as well as carers and families. As part of the wider campaign, teams across the organisation are taking part in a range of activities designed to inspire connection, from planting sessions and wellbeing events to creative “Trees of Hope” and community gatherings.
Chief executive officer Rachel Peacock said: “I am really pleased that Making Space is taking part in A Million Acts of Hope, as at times, it can feel like there is a lot of negativity in the world. But that is not the reality I see every day at Making Space.
“Across our organisation, in head office, within our services, across our leaders, volunteers and among the people who draw on our support, I see compassion, kindness and community in action. I see colleagues going the extra mile. I see people supporting one another through incredibly difficult times. I see hope.
“A Million Acts of Hope is about shining a light on those everyday moments. It brings together charities, community groups and organisations from across the UK to celebrate the acts of kindness and connection that unite us. Because there is far more that connects us than divides us.
“Together, we can show that hope is not rare, it is everywhere including at Making Space.”
As part of the campaign, people are encouraged to carry out and share their own Acts of Hope using the hashtag #AMillionActsOfHope.
These do not have to be big gestures, small, everyday actions can make a real difference. For example:
- Checking in on a neighbour or someone who might be feeling isolated
- Sharing a kind message or simply taking time to listen
- Volunteering or supporting a local group
- Donating food, clothes or household items
- Inviting someone for a cuppa and a chat
People can also take part by signing the UK’s biggest ever thank you card, recognising those who choose kindness, connection and community every day.
Every act, no matter how small, helps create a ripple effect of kindness across the community.
Local residents are encouraged to drop into the Hope in Warrington event on May 20, to take part in activities.
