TWO dogs were found unharmed by firefighters after a smoke alarm alerted neighbours to a fire at a residential property on Watkin Street, Warrington.

At 11:33 yesterday, Sunday, two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood attended at the property after neighbours raised the alarm after hearing a smoke detector sounding and knowing the occupants were not at home. Two dogs were believed to be inside the property.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house with a hose reel jet, where they found light smoke logging and extinguished the fire.
Crews ventilated the property and isolated the hob to make the area safe. Both dogs were unharmed.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical item left on the top of a hob.

Safety advice: Firefighters regularly attend kitchen fires, many of which are caused by unattended cooking or items left on or near the hob. Even when it’s switched off, never use the cooker top for storage. Pets and children can accidentally turn hobs on, putting your home at serious risk of fire. In the event of a fire, get out, stay out and call 999.

In another incident at 13:57 one crew from warrington attended reports of a fire on Huntley Street, Warrington. Firefighters extinguished a small amount of debris on fire.
Then at 14:34 one crew attended reports of a grass fire on Hayscastle Close.
Firefighters used water backpacks and beaters to put out a grass fire which measured approximately 40 square metres.
