WARRINGTON South MP Sarah Hall has today (Sunday) confirmed that architects are now drawing up plans for a new Urgent Treatment Centre at Warrington Hospital, following nearly two years of work with local NHS leaders.
The update comes after sustained concern from residents about long waiting times in A&E and pressure on frontline staff.
Since her election in 2024, Sarah has been working closely behind the scenes with the Government Ministers, MP Charlotte Nichols, Warrington Hospital and Cheshire and Merseyside ICB to develop practical steps to ease that pressure.
A key focus of the work has been ensuring patients can access the right care in the right place, reducing pressure on A&E while improving patient experience.
The new design phase marks a significant step forward in plans to expand and modernise how urgent and emergency care is delivered locally.
It forms part of Sarah’s wider, three-stage approach to improving health services — focusing first on immediate pressures in A&E while laying the groundwork for longer-term investment in local health facilities.
Ms Hall said: “I’ve heard directly from hundreds of my constituents about their experiences of urgent care – long waits, corridor care, and staff doing everything they can in difficult conditions.
“Since being elected, I’ve been working closely with our local NHS to move things forward. This next step means plans are now being drawn up to improve how urgent care works here in Warrington.
“Many residents currently turn to A&E because there are no other alternatives available locally when urgent help is needed.
“This is about getting the basics right, making sure people can access the right care in the right place, and giving staff the facilities they deserve to do their jobs properly.
“This new announcement forms part of my three-stage plan for improving health services here in Warrington.
“Addressing immediate pressures in urgent and emergency care, developing new non-urgent facilities for residents to access the care they need away from the hospital and delivering a phased modernisation of Warrington Hospital so we can keep vital services running in the meantime.
“I’d like to put on record my thanks to my fellow Warrington MP Charlotte Nichols and local NHS teams for their continued support in making this a reality.
“This isn’t the end and there’s plenty more work to do, but I’ll continue to keep residents updated as this moves forward.
“In line with NHS guidance that Urgent Treatment Centres should be co-located with emergency departments, designs are now being drawn up for a site on the Warrington Hospital estate.”
