WARRINGTON’S Centenary Theatre Company, one of the UK’s oldest amateur theatre groups (est. 1901), makes history this May as the first amateur company in the North West to secure the licence for Disney’s Frozen – The Musical.
The production runs for five nights at The Brindley in Runcorn from 12–16 May, with Saturday performances having almost sold out already and Friday night rapidly filling. Director Dan Grimes said the company’s mission is to prove that audiences don’t need to travel to a major city for world-class musical theatre.
Leading the cast are Lydia Foxley as Elsa and Kirstin Dunn as Anna. By day, Foxley works as a dog handler in Birkenhead while Dunn works as an admin at a storage company in Warrington. Both are experienced performers with Centenary, and they describe stepping into the sisters of Arendelle as something special.
They’ve said, “Elsa and Anna are just brilliant roles to play. The music, the story, the sister relationship. We’re having so much fun bringing this to life and we can’t wait for people to see it”
Kirstin added this is “For me, this has been extra special as it’s the first time I’ve been in a show with my family”. Dunn’s husband and daughters are also performing on stage.
Lydia added, “It has been a truly magical experience.”
Dan Grimes, who directs the show and chairs the charity theatre company said the response to the show has been unprecedented.
“This is one of our fastest-selling productions ever. We’ve already sold out Saturday shows, and the Friday night show is filling up quickly. The cast has put in months of hard work, and it’s looking absolutely fantastic.
It would be a shame to miss it.”
The company has over 90 people working on Frozen, including cast, child performers and behind-the-scenes crew, with the cast coming from all over Cheshire, making it one of the largest productions Centenary has ever undertaken.
The production features digital screens, atmospheric ice blasts and other special effects designed to recreate the frozen world of Arendelle on The Brindley stage – while staying true to the beloved film.
