A MAJOR new opportunity for local young people has arrived, with a search for two engineering apprentices to join the team at Warrington’s Own Buses.

The initiative was unveiled at Warrington’s Own Buses’ depot by the town’s two MPs. Charlotte Nichols and Sarah Hall, alongside company representatives Karl Hutchison and Ben Wakerley.
The roles represent an investment in local talent, offering a direct pathway into the rapidly evolving world of green transport technology.
The successful candidates will gain hands-on experience maintaining Warrington’s state-of-the-art electric bus fleet. Working alongside seasoned professionals, the apprentices will balance practical, on-the-job training with study toward industry-recognised qualifications, ensuring they are equipped for long-term career success.

Charlotte Nichols, MP for Warrington North, said: “Investing in the next generation of skilled workers is vital for our town’s prosperity. I’m delighted to support this search, which is giving local young people the opportunity to high-quality career opportunities within Warrington’s hi-tech transport industry.”
Sarah Hall, MP for Warrington South, added: “These apprenticeships are a real chance for young people in Warrington to build skills, earn while they learn, and step into good local jobs.
“As our town continues to lead the way on clean and green technology, it’s right that local young people have the chance to be part of that story too. This is about investing in talent here in Warrington and making sure the next generation can build a future close to home.”
The apprenticeship program is a key component of Warrington’s Own Buses’ commitment to sustainable infrastructure. With one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country, the bus company is helping Warrington lead the way for green urban travel.
Cllr Hans Mundry, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “Our electric bus fleet is transforming travel across the town, and its success relies on the talent behind the scenes. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to join the team that keeps our fleet running smoothly while learning invaluable, future-proof skills.”
Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply through the National Apprenticeship Service website. The closing date for applications is Friday April 26.
