LOCAL community champion Christopher Ball has been praised for his bravery and compassion after coming to the aid of a man in distress while taking part in a 24-hour charity run through Orford Park, Warrington.
Christopher, who was raising vital funds for four local charities, noticed a man in his 30s in severe distress during the late hours of the night. The man was clearly in a highly vulnerable and volatile state.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Christopher approached with care and sensitivity. At times, the man did not want help and became aggressive, prompting Christopher to step back to avoid escalating the situation. However, he remained nearby, keeping a watchful eye and gently re-approaching to offer reassurance.
After some time, the man became overwhelmed with emotion, breaking down in tears and asking Christopher to stay with him. Christopher remained by his side, providing comfort and support while ensuring emergency services were on their way.
Christopher stayed with the man for over two hours, offering reassurance and ensuring he did not come to further harm. At around midnight, in the quiet and chilly night, his presence proved crucial, as the man may otherwise have gone unnoticed.
When paramedics arrived, they commended Christopher’s actions and the calm and responsible way he handled a very delicate situation.
Despite losing almost three hours during the incident and suffering an injured knee after falling down the stairs, Christopher showed remarkable determination to continue his challenge. He went on to complete an incredible 86 miles and raised almost £500 for the Warrington Mayor’s nominated charities.

Reflecting on the incident, Christopher, who had started his charity marathon at Warrington Parkrun earlier in the day, said: “I’m just glad I was able to help and hope he gets the support he needs. I’d also like to thank the ambulance staff for their care and professionalism, they were absolutely great.”
