LYMM is taking a bold step onto the national stage in a bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028 — and the whole village is invited to be part of it.

Following months of work by local volunteers, organisations and partners, Lymm’s Expression of Interest for UK Town of Culture 2028 is now complete. To mark the moment and to invite final community input, a public launch meeting will be held later this month.

Lymm Town of Culture 2028 – Expression of Interest Launch
📅 Tuesday 24 March
🕢 7.30pm
📍 Lymm Parish Hall, Pepper Street

The evening is an opportunity for residents to hear what’s in the bid, understand what the Town of Culture opportunity could mean for Lymm, and share any final thoughts before the submission is sent off at the end of March.
Rather than proposing a single flagship event or major new building, the bid tells a different story — one rooted in Lymm’s everyday cultural life. From festivals and traditions to volunteer‑led activity in familiar places, the Expression of Interest focuses on what already makes Lymm special, and how national recognition could help connect, strengthen and support that activity for the future.
“This is about backing what Lymm already does well,” says the organising group. “Culture here isn’t something that gets delivered to people — it’s something the community makes together. The Town of Culture bid is about giving that energy a stronger voice and a shared direction.”
The launch event is open to everyone — whether you’ve been involved from the start, are part of a local group or business, or are simply curious about what’s being proposed. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, offer reflections, and help give the bid its final polish.
A photo call will also take place on the night, capturing the moment as Lymm proudly declares its intention to be a strong contender for UK Town of Culture 2028.
Above all, organisers hope the evening will feel like what the bid itself represents: open, welcoming and community‑led.

“This is a real chance to shape how Lymm presents itself to the rest of the country — its creativity, its character and its sense of community,” said one of the Bid group, Graham Gowland. “We’d love to see as many people there as possible.
“Everyone is welcome!”
ED’s Note: While Lymm is technically a village, due tot he size of its population it meets the criteria to apply as a small town.
