Union flag proudly flying again at Arpley Street Police Station after absence of more than 30 years

THE Union flag is once again proudly flying from the historic Aprley Street Police Station in Warrington after an absence of more than 30 years.

The original flag pole snapped and had never been replaced.
Remedial works, including a new roof, have been ongoing for a whil. The brackets where the original flag pole had been since 1901 when the ‘palace of justice’ as the building was known opened, where still on the wall and it was decided appropriate to get a new flag pole and proudly fly the Union Flag once again.

Chris Upham Chairman of the Trustees of the Museum of Policing, which is based in the police station said: “This is a great day seeing the new flag pole installed. It replaces one that snapped over 30 years ago. The police do fly a flag but it is situated in Museum Street and not noticeable to passers by. Now we have the flag proudly flying on the corner of the building and will be seen by anyone traveling along one of the town’s main thoroughfares. On behalf of the Constabulary the Museum will take responsibility for ensuring the flag is always appropriately flown.”
