STONE Roses legend Mani will be honoured when a trio of bands take to the stage at Warrington’s Parr Hall stage later this year.
The Clone Roses will lead a tribute night at the venue alongside Oas-is and The James Experience on Saturday, October 17.
But the gig will be particularly poignant because it is taking place just days after the late Stone Roses bassist Mani was set to come back to Parr Hall himself
Mani’s return to the stage was due to see him reflect on his time with the Roses and his wider experiences in the music industry, performing with the likes of Primal Scream.
But the 63-year-old sadly died in November last year shortly after the tour was announced.
“It is truly heartbreaking,” said Gav Scott, frontman of The Clone Roses. “Mani was loved by everyone and you won’t find a single person who has a bad word to say about him.
“A proper down to earth fella with no ego. He had time for everybody.”
The Clone Roses have been paying tribute to their favourite band – the Stone Roses – since 1998 and recently celebrated their 25th anniversary in front of 6,000 revellers at Heaton Park.
However, their crowning moment was when they played in front of a sell-out 15,000-strong crowd at the iconic Spike Island site on the banks of the River Mersey, winning over old and new Roses fans alike.
Over the years, Mani became a big supporter of the group billing them as ‘the second-best Stone Roses in the world’.
He had also shared a stage with the band a number of times while performing DJ sets.
Gav added: “He was actually due to DJ with us at Manchester Academy a few days before his death.
“We have been paying tribute to Mani at all our shows since we lost him, and will again at Parr Hall. He loved that venue so much. “
Joining the Clones are Oas-is, who will be bringing back recent memories of one of the biggest reunions in British music history. They are the only tribute band to tour with a full video show, using some of the same equipment and visuals that the Gallagher brothers used on their tours.
The James Experience complete the bill with an authentic tribute to one of the most influential bands from the Manchester scene.
