Police seek witnesses after man suffers serious head injury during town centre assault

POLICE are seeking witnesses after a 52-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after being pushed to the ground during an assault in Warrington town centre.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but officers investigating the incident would like to hear from any witnesses who were in the Bold Street area of the town centre at around 2.15 am on Tuesday, 9 September.
Attending the scene, officers found that a 52-year-old man had been pushed to the ground, sustaining a serious injury to his head.
A 29-year-old man from the Irlam area of Salford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 20 assault and possession of a class A drug. He has since been released on conditional bail.
As part of enquiries into this incident, officers are looking to identify a number of witnesses who were also present at the scene and are believed to hold vital information.

Detective Constable Haddon Hunter, of Warrington CID, said: “This incident has resulted in the victim sustaining a serious head injury and we have since arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident.
“However, as part of our enquiries to fully establish what took place here, we are now looking to identify a number of witnesses who were present at the scene at the time of the incident.
“I would also like to ask that anyone who has any information in relation to the incident, or CCTV or dashcam footage that may prove useful in our investigation, to please get in touch.
