WORK is set to start next week on the controversial Orford Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme -with up to five weeks of road closures for “highway improvement” and traffic calming works.
Last November the borough council revealed its plans to introduce traffic calming measures on Hallfields Road, along with new proposals for a smaller Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme (LTN) in Orford following a public outcry over the original scheme.
When the latest plans were revealed the council’s cabinet member for transportation, highways and public realm, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: “We remain committed, as part of our Central 6 Regeneration Masterplan, to making our air cleaner and making our streets quieter and safer for residents, pedestrians and cyclists. We can only achieve this by proposing interventions which reduce traffic levels.”
Following a period of further consultation work is set to start on Monday.
Now Warrington Borough Council has made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving and footway closure on Hallfields Road from the A50 Orford Green to the junction of Withers Avenue.
The Order will be effective from 6th February 2023 for 5 weeks, between 9:30am to 3:30pm on Monday to Friday and 9:30am to 1:30pm on a Saturday, as and when signed on site.
Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route for vehicles will be via O’Leary Street, Marsh House Lane, Padgate Lane and the A50 and the alternative route for pedestrians via the opposite footway. The restrictions are required to facilitate Highway improvement/traffic calming works.
