Historic Warrington pub to get its chimneys back

A HISTORIC Warrington pub which lost five chimney stacks last year is to get them back.

Warrington Borough Council Planning chiefs have given the go-ahead for five new stacks to be built at the Grade 2 Listed Cheshire Cheese, in Knutsford Road, Latchford – to replace the five which were removed without planning consent.

The new stacks will be built in red, hand-made bricks and will replicate as far as possible the five which were removed.
The Cheshire Cheese is believed to date from the late 18th century

Earlier this year, a function room which had not been used for a couple of years because of a leaking roof was re-opened after a complete refurbishment. The leaking roof was also repaired. Now the missing chimneys can also be replaced
Planners say replacing the five chimney stacks will help restore the character of the building, which had suffered some visual harm as a result of the loss of the original stacks.
