Thick black smoke seen for miles as firefighters tackle combine harvester blaze

THICK black smoke that could be seen for miles around Lymm was caused by a combine harvester fire earlier today, Monday.

Shortly before noon two crews from Lymm and Greater Manchester were called out to the blaze involving a combine harvester in a field off Reddish Lane, Lymm.

The two crews in breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets to battle the blaze in the vehicle which contained around 1000 litres of diesel.
Once the fire was out the crews damped down the surrounding area, a hay field where the combine harvester was located, to ensure there was no risk of fire spread.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.
