WARRINGTON-based Armed Forces Community Support charity has been awarded £25,000 from the West Lancashire Freemasons charity.
A standalone registered charity, founded in July 2016, builds upon its working partnership with SSAFA, Citizens Advice, Combat Stress, The Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, Cheshire Police, CGL Pathways to Recovery and local authorities.
The purpose of the charity is to support all those who have problems with accessing government support services, welfare and mental health issues along with further education and training to gain sustained employment
Some of the veterans need to be provided for are increased activity, especially in older veterans to allow them to access courses to gain further educational qualifications
There is a bicycle recycling project which provides free bicycles for work/health and fun, a Military Veterans Living History educational experience for school children. and another project entitled Comrade Companions, which involves veterans going into local care homes to talk with other veterans about service life.
The Armed Forces Community Support Hub is a ‘one stop shop’ to support the Armed Forces community in Warrington and Cheshire. This includes all former armed forces veterans, early service leavers, current serving personnel, reservists and their families
