THE campaign group opposing the controversial Central 6 low traffic schemes at Orford and Westy is planning another peaceful protest on the town hall lawn – this time a teddy bears’ picnic!
The Teddy bears protest picnic is set to take place on the 14th August at 1pm on bank park, front of the town hall.
Campaign organiser Rachael Harper said: “This is a great chance for families who oppose this plans to encourage their children to be a part of democracy, which is such an important thing in our society. Children need to know that their opinions matter and that they can influence change in a positive and peaceful way.
“The event is also hoping to capture the strong community spirit that we have here in Warrington by coming together for something we believe in; opposing this plan. There will be music, competitions, games and activities for both adults and children.
“Of course, it wouldn’t be a teddy bears’ picnic without everyone bringing a teddy bear with them. I intend to bring my own. We also have official campaign bandanas to buy on our website for teddy bears to wear to the event if people want to do that.”
Rachael added: “We’re hoping for another big turnout where we can show the strong amount of feeling against the central 6 street plans. We’ve invited the Mayor of Warrington and would encourage all councillors to attend if they can to show they are willing to listen and engage with their community. We remain committed to working with the council where we can in the best interest of residents.”
It follows on from peaceful protests outside Warrington town hall, the Parr Hall, Warrington Youth Zone and a protest march from Orford Park to Victoria Park.
