A PLAN to convert a historic barn in the Green Belt into two dwellings is to be considered by Warrington planning chiefs tomorrow (Thursday)
The Grade 2 Listed barn is at Stretton House, in Northwich Road, Stretton – and borough councillors Kenneth Critchley and Ghazala Chapman have both lodged objections, along with Stretton Parish Council.
They claim the development would create traffic hazards on a road that is already dangerous because it is narrow, has acute bends and already attracts a lot of HGVs.
The barn is located on a bend which would make it particularly hazardous, particularly for vehicles approaching from the Northwich direction.
There are also issues concerning ecology – particularly the impact on bats and house sparrows.
But Warrington Borough Council planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
There has also been a letter of support from a neighbour who points out the scheme would result in a once significant building being brought b ack into use.
Officers argue that the scheme will result in a positive re-use of an existing building without harming the openness of the Green Belt, highway safety or the heritage assets of nearby Listed buildings
Although a small number of trees would have to be removed, there would be no unacceptable impact on wildlife.
