WARRINGTON South MP, Andy Carter, is supporting World Book Day’s 25th anniversary today, March 3.
Each year, World Book Day creates bespoke £1 books for children and young adults across the UK to promote the power of imagination and the importance of reading. Through World Book Day, every child in Warrington South will be given a £1 book token, which they can take to a bookshop or supermarket to get their free World Book Day book.
World Book Day has been changing children’s lives by encouraging a love of books and reading for 25 years. Reading for pleasure makes an enormous impact on a child’s future – whether that’s their educational success, well-being or mental health. World Book Day wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the life-long habit of reading for pleasure that will improve their life chances.
Andy said “I can still remember some of the exciting story books I was given as a gift when I was 7, by a local author who wrote about a boy becoming a spy, it got me interested in reading and the power of our imagination, so I 100% support World Book Day in its 25th year. I’ve seen photos of so many great costumes today as children celebrate in schools across the town. It is so important that every child in Warrington has the opportunity to have a book of their own, that they have chosen for themselves.
“All the Livewire libraries in Warrington South have special sections for children to choose books and it was great to meet eight year old Connie and four year old Orla Stubbs earlier, who are regular users of Stockton Heath library to present them with some books to celebrate World Book Day.”
