WOOLSTON Rovers Rugby League Club has received two grants to purchase a defibrillator at their Monk Sports Club home in Woolston, which will be available for all the local community in an emergency.
The defibrillator is the first to be installed in the Woolston area that is accessible 24/7 via the 999 services.
Junior Section Treasurer Joan Ayres was the architect behind the initial application to the Torus Foundation, resulting in £500 being awarded and then she made a further application to the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund and was successful in receiving a further £500 towards the cost.
Joan then met with the Monks Sports Club committee, who agreed that it was a much-needed piece of equipment and they were happy to assist with raising the balance between all sports teams who use the facility. In addition, Woolston Rovers Junior Section, Woolston Rovers Open Age, Woolston Rovers FC and the Monks’ club social members contributed to ensure that the full cost of the defibrillator was met.
The defibrillator was ordered at the beginning of January and was installed last weekend with special guests Stuart Middleton, Chairman of Warrington Wolves, Daryl Powell, Head Coach of Warrington Wolves, The Mayor of Warrington Cllr Maureen Creaghan and Charlotte Nichols MP for Warrington North being present.
Joan added, “From submitting the initial grant application in August it has taken less than five months for the defibrillator to be installed and everybody concerned are delighted. I’d like to thank everybody who has made it possible to have this vital life-saving equipment installed at our club.”
