Two suspects who jumped into River Mersey to escape police charged with assault

TWO suspects who jumped into the River Mersey to escape police following an alleged assault on a delivery driver at the Riverside Retail Park on Monday night have both been charged.

Bohus Dotko, aged 22, has been charged with theft and assault while Chloe Penny, 21, has been charged with assault. The pair from Wigan, have been released on bail to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court next month.
They were arrested after a search involving the police helicopter, numerous police officers and Cheshire Fire & Rescue.
Following the incident, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 10.30pm on Monday, October 18, police were called to a retail park on Wharf Street following reports of a man with injuries.
“The victim reported seeing two people stealing from his delivery van while in the town centre and they subsequently assaulted him.
“The pair had fled the scene and entered into the River Mersey.
“Officers, including assistance from air support and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, conducted a thorough search of the water and located a male and a female.
“A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and a 22-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of theft.”
