AFTER making the difficult decision to cancel all their upcoming physical events, due to the surge in local Delta Variant cases Lymm festival will continue online from this Thursday, June 24.

The Festival continues with a range of virtual events between the 24th June and 4th July shared on their website lymmfestival.org.uk and social media @LymmFestival.

It launches with ‘Food Fest’ on Thursday 24th June. Throughout the day, local eateries will showcase their current menus in a series of videos. These will be accompanied by two online baking classes, ‘Bake with Violet’, run live via Zoom on Thursday evening 24th and Saturday morning 26th. For £10, these fun, hands-on workshops will allow families to learn together from the comfort of their own kitchen!
On Friday 25th, Lymm Photographic Society presents an online showcase of work, with highlights from recent competitions and photographs of the local area. Over the weekend, the Manchester Bonsai Society will be presenting their Annual Show on their Facebook page, with an opportunity to vote for your favourites. Sunday will also see the release of Lymm Artists’ Virtual Summer Exhibition and on Monday Lymm and Thelwall U3A will be sharing images about their range of activities. The galleries will be shared as URL links on the Lymm Festival website and social media and will remain open until the end of the Festival.
Those who were excited about the cancelled ‘Physics in Star Wars’ event will enjoy the new online alternative ‘Hollywood Physics’ on Tuesday 29th. In this live Zoom talk, Professor Carsten Welsch will explore cinema’s most mind-boggling moments of scientific inaccuracy, with examples from Iron Man, Angels and Demons, and other blockbusters. The following evening, Wednesday 30th, award-winning local author Martin Edwards will dissect the ‘Howdunit’ of crime-writing in a pre-recorded interview with Jim Hancock. Both events cost £5 each and are accessible via a URL link emailed to ticket-purchasers.
The Scarecrow Trail will still be going ahead and its ‘Lockdown Heroes’ will be in place throughout the Festival. The Trail has had a fantastic response and promises to be a fun outing for walkers. Trail maps will be available for download from the Festival website.
Throughout the Festival there will be daily readings from the recent Poetry Competition, uploaded each morning to the website and social media. This ‘Poem-A-Day’ series will feature a selection of favourites from the competition, with the winners announced on Sunday 4th July.
Full details of all events can be found at lymmfestival.org.uk where you can also buy tickets and sign up to the newsletter. Make sure you are following @LymmFestival on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram so as not to miss any updates. Use the hashtag #LymmFest21 to share your thoughts.
