A FIVE-a-side football competition is taking place at Warrington today – followed by a free barbecue and a chance to watch England play USA on a big screen.
The competition is being organised by the Broomfields Youth Project and the big screen show will be at Hill Cliffe Baptist Church, Appleton.
Teams of under 15s and adults will take part in the competition.
South Warrington Neighbourhood Policing Unit will be entering a team featuring staff and partnership colleagues called “The Heath”.
Broomfields Youth Project was set up in October 2009 and is supported by Cheshire Police as well as Bridgewater Churches Together, Youth For Christ , Warrington Borough Council and Bridgewater High School.
It now has up to 130 young people, aged 12-17, playing football, swimming and using the dance studio.
Inspector Gary McIntyre from Warrington South NPU said: “The project is absolutely fantastic and is working really well. It’s great to see the youth of South areas with so much to do and getting involved.
“The partners have worked very hard to get this project off the ground and obtain funding to sustain it. My PCSOs attend every Friday evening and work with the youngsters and it’s a really positive vibe”.
Broomfields Youth Project will be showing each England football match at the church throughout the World Cup.
