STAFF from three organisations combined to give a scout hut in Warrington a facelift.
Work was carried out at the 1st/14th Warrington Scout Hut, Windermere Avenue, Orford. It is used by scouts,
cubs, beavers and explorers as well as sports clubs, and relies on the goodwill and support of users.
The resident scouts aim to raise £3,000 each year, but most of this goes on maintenance of the hut, rather than updating equipment for the scouts.
Employees from Sellafield Ltd’s Engineering Design and Delivery Capability (EDDC) team joined staff from Warrington Borough Council’s Environment and Regeneration team and Warrington Probation Service to carry out the work.
Pauline Deans, sustainability relations officer at Sellafield, said: “The employee challenge forms part of a team building exercise for the EDDC.
“The challenge helps employees to develop leadership, team working and observation skills and puts into practice the principles of social responsibility.”
Craig Monks, group scout leader, said the scouts appreciated the support of the organisations who helped give the hut a “much needed” facelift.
“It is really important for us to create a welcoming environment for our young people, the community, visitors and volunteers, and the efforts of these organisations are making a huge contribution to this,” he said.
The scouts are looking for new members, adults as well as children, to join the group. Anyone interested in using the hut once the makeover is complete should contact Craig on 07526 568484.
