TWO brothers who grew up in Appleton, Warrington, have launched a premium dementia day care service across South Manchester and Cheshire, after struggling to find suitable care for their mother following her early-onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
Brad and James Crompton have partnered with The Rainbow Care Group, an eight-time Great British Care Award winner, to open three new hubs this summer. The launches will take place at Statham Lodge in Lymm, The Tytherington Club in Macclesfield, and Egerton Hall on The Tatton Estate. The expansion addresses a critical shortage of nonclinical, person-centred care in the region.
The venture was inspired by the brothers’ personal experience. Their mother, Claire, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at age 54, after her initial symptoms were misattributed to the menopause.
Finding that local day centres felt impersonal and clinical, the brothers established a localised service tailored to individual identity rather than just a medical condition.
Brad Crompton, Director of The Rainbow Care Group South Manchester and Cheshire, said: “There was not a single place we felt comfortable taking our Mum that felt right for her as a person, rather than a patient,
so our only option was to build it ourselves. Every venue we open and every session we run will be held to one standard: would we feel happy and confident bringing our Mum here? We want to welcome local families through our doors this July to meet the team, experience our care firsthand, and see what a great day looks like.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, roughly 70,800 people in the UK live with early-onset dementia. Studies indicate women are disproportionately affected by delayed diagnoses, with symptoms often mistaken for menopause, leading to an average wait that is 1.5 years longer than men. With family members often balancing full-time employment, the demand for structured, purposeful day care that supports cognitive maintenance is rising.
The Rainbow Care Group model delivers small, tailored group sessions built around a bespoke Life Story process. Activities include arts, music, cooking, and excursions, supplemented by fresh meals prepared by onsite chefs. The choice of premium, destination venues deliberately moves away from traditional institutional settings to enhance the wellbeing of attendees.
James Crompton, Director of The Rainbow Care Group South Manchester and Cheshire, said: “This service is built for two people: the individual living with dementia, to give them a warm, purposeful day, and the people who love them, who deserve the time and space to look after themselves too. Mum is still full of life, and we cannot wait to have her join us at Statham Lodge. We built this for her, and for every other family
in this area who deserves the highest standard of care.”
To introduce the service, three launch events will take place from 11:00am – 2:00pm, where families, carers, and healthcare professionals can tour the facilities:
Monday 20 July: The Tytherington Club, Macclesfield (SK10 2JP)
Tuesday 21 July: Statham Lodge, Lymm (WA13 9BP) Wednesday 22
July: Egerton Hall, Rostherne (WA16 6RX)
Complimentary taster days are available for families looking to take the first step. Attendance Allowance may also be utilised by eligible individuals to help fund care costs.
