No place for hate say Labour councillors ahead of Warrington Pride

LABOUR councillors in Warrington are flying the flag for the Town’s Pride event this Saturday, as neighbouring Reform councils cut their support for the annual event.

Warrington Pride takes place on Saturday 13th June, starting in Time Square at 11.30 am and continuing with entertainment in the town centre throughout the day.

This annual event brings thousands of visitors to Warrington, boosting local businesses and allowing all residents to show their support for our LGBT community during UK Pride month in June.
This week, St Helen’s council leader dropped its support for all its Pride events, along with an announcement to remove books and material containing any LGBT references.
Pride is organised and funded by Warrington Business Improvement District, not Warrington Borough Council.

Cllr Hans Mundry, speaking on behalf of the Labour Group in Warrington, said: “Warrington is a diverse and inclusive community – always has been and always will be. Our Pride celebration in the town centre is a joyful expression of that diversity, just as all the events in our Town’s calendar are.
“At a time when Pride events are under threat across the UK, as Labour Councillors, we believe it’s important to say that we stand with our LGBT friends, neighbours and colleagues. There is no place for hate in Warrington.”
“We thank all the organisers, volunteers and sponsors for their work in making Warrington Pride happen. We hope everyone has a great time again this year.”
