The teenage sensation averaged an astounding 111.38 and smashed 12 maximums to secure the £350,000 first prize in what has already been widely hailed as one of the greatest matches in the history of the sport. The highly anticipated showdown marked the third consecutive Premier League final between the world’s top two players.
Littler captured the title as a debutant in 2024, only for Humphries to exact revenge in 2025. This deciding installment of their trilogy delivered unforgettable drama from the opening dart. Both players operated at an astonishing level throughout the evening, trading ferocious maximums and clinical checkouts. Humphries, the world number two, piled on the pressure with three consecutive ton-plus checkouts and a tournament average of 105. He initially wrestled control of the match, opening up fragile advantages at 6-3 and 7-5.
However, “The Nuke” refused to go away. Roared on by a capacity crowd of 16,000 fans, the 19-year-old launched a stunning counter-attack. In the 19th leg, Littler threatened a perfect nine-dart leg, landing seven pristine darts before agonizingly wiring double 12. He settled for a blistering 10-darter to break Humphries’ throw and pull ahead 10-9.Humphries displayed immense resilience of his own, capitalising on a rare missed match dart from the teenager to take out double top and drag the contest into a winner-takes-all 21st leg.
With the darts in Humphries’ favour, the tension inside the arena peaked. Yet, a stray visit of 43 left “Cool Hand” stranded, allowing Littler to set up 54. Showing composure beyond his years, the Warrington star pinned double top with his final arrow, sparking wild celebrations on stage.
Following the victory, an emotionally exhausted Littler broke down in tears on the Sky Sports stage. Reflecting on a grueling 17-week roadshow where he frequently faced hostile crowds, he admitted that the pressure had nearly broken him.
“It’s been a rollercoaster,” Littler said. “The first four weeks I was near the bottom of the table, and I had to pick myself up through some really tough times. After Brighton and the incident in Manchester, I was sat at home saying to Faith [his partner], ‘I don’t want to do it anymore, just dealing with the crowd every week’. I told her I was down bad, but I fought through it, and now I’m standing here with the trophy.”
With this triumph, Littler solidifies his status as the undisputed king of the oche. The thrilling victory wraps up an unforgettable 2026 Premier League campaign, leaving fans eager for the next chapter in darts’ most compelling modern rivalry.
